Camping in Kananaskis Sept 13 to 24th
On the wrong side of the river to get to the golf course...shucks
Susan and Greg drove over to visit us and we enjoyed a bike ride from Mt Kidd campground to the Village where we had a coffee break with some sweet treats.
Day 2. Started out a bit cooler and more gloomy.
It did warm up a bit and we saw some sunshine around 4:30
After we just followed the path and when we got to a Y in the road, we guessed...
We ended up behind the Village with these great views to the golf course
Woke up to sunshine so decided to stretch our legs
Oooh, a bridge to the other side, what's over there?
Another beautiful campsite in the Alberta Rockies
Made a slight detour on the way back to have a look at the golf course. Excited to play there in a few days.
We went on another bike ride...
I got a bit braver and let Ken take us through a bit rougher terrain, first was the Terrace trail.
How do you like that pose??? Note the bear spray...
Was able to zoom in and snap these golfers
Rode back towards our campsite and had to make another stop at the golf course. This time we stopped in and did not have trouble finishing off this trio of desserts.
Raspberry cheesecake - Ken's favorite
Creame Brulee - Pam's favorite
and finally a chocolate brownie moose
Day 3 - Sept 16 - Happy Birthday to Lorainne
I have probably had these Keen's for 30 plus years, still do their job
Views from the other side.
We will be on that course later today so get ready for a bunch of golf pictures.
What is that on top of the highest peak?... Let's zoom in and have a look
As promised, here are the golf pictures
It was a great day for golf. We got lucky with the weather
Day 4 - Sept 17
Today we took a ride on our bikes from Canmore to Banff - total distance was 54.7 kms - record for us.
Started in Canmore Visitor Centre parking lot
Oh no... helmet hair
These are pics of the public gardens
A fallen tree across the path, overcoming what nature throws at us, or in this case what it drops in front of us.
There was a farmers market in Banff so we stopped for a quick snack
Bow falls and Bow River
And the fabulous Banff Springs golf course
September 18, another golfing day, so you guessed it... more golf course pictures...
Ken got a couple of birdies today, so got to enjoy some birdie juice.
to the left, clubhouse above hole 18.
September 19 - Happy Birthday John
Another beautiful day so we decided to go canoeing on a mountain lake (Barrier Lake)
Good thing for the wheels, it was too heavy for me to lift.
on the drive back to our campsite we stopped at Mt Lorrette ponds, nice little hike
I spoke to soon, My keen's did not last the hike after getting wet at the lake...the soles fell right off
September 20,
riding our bikes from Banff to Johnston Canyon
This is our starting point, after a bit of riding we reached the entrance to the Parkway.
This is Hwy 1A, closed to traffic all the way to the canyon
This is one of the picnic areas along the route. Served as a quick bathroom stop for us.
What an awesome ride into the canyon, just as we were coming down the last hill, a very steep hill, we rode right past a black bear, no more than 5 or so feet beside us. So cooooool!!!!
We got to the canyon and hiked to the upper falls. There are 7 falls along the way including the lower falls.
This is the lower falls
These are the upper falls
And just to prove we were there, us at the upper falls
A couple of pics from the ride home
And back to where we started. That was a long day...but so great!
Sept 21 - no birthdays that I know of...
The weather is not so great today, definitely a little cooler and expecting some rain this afternoon so wanted to get one more bike ride in before the rains came. We went back to Barrier dam and rode some trails around there. These are definitely more the kind of trails that Ken likes. Need strong arms to keep your bike steady over the rocks. That is the lake we were canoeing on the other day. Look how much color the leaves have in just the 8 days we have been here.
Ken finally found a helmet for himself, although a little small.
We found the helmet at this campsite, you can only bike or hike in and take everything out when you leave. These are some of the tenting pads
Oh....Where do these stairs go? Turns out they go to another part of the campsite. Very much the same but set up for horses. Really cool place.
This is a little pond behind the dam, you can see the layers of rock below the surface.
Now why am I showing you a picture of an outhouse
Check out the info below...
We found out a few days ago that they were turning the water off here at Mt Kidd Campground. The water was shut off at 1:00 today.
We packed up the gazebo earlier before the rain and Ken spent some time packing up some other things while I stayed warm in the trailer making biscuits and chili.
We are moving to Innisfail in the morning to play some golf.
